I use this site as a way of sharing information about my ongoing research and professional endeavours, as well as a means of professional self-introduction.
I am a clinical doctor of audiology (James Madison University, 2020) and am currently pursuing my PhD in Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences at the University of Minnesota as a member of Matt Winn's Listen Lab.
My current research centers on investigating vocal prosody's role in communication. Vocal prosody-- the way words are said-- adds information like emotion and meaning to speech. I am particularly interested in perception of prosody by populations with hearing loss, especially by users of cochlear implants, for whom access to voice pitch (F0) acoustic cues are limited.

Back for my second attendance of CIAP (my first visit to this great event was in 2017 during my AuD studies)! It's been fantastic already catching up with colleagues during the Sunday introductory events and today's binaural sessions. CIAP is such a great international conference to pull out expertise in a relaxed and highly-productive way.
I will be presenting the above poster (W14) on Wednesday July 12, 2023!
Be sure to check out work from other members of UMN's Listen Lab, which are all jam-packed into Wednesday with Justin Fleming giving a talk on listening effort and access to visual cues, as well as posters by Steven Gianakas, Michael Smith, and Matt Winn on using pupillometry to assess listening effort.
On my way to my first in-person ASA meeting! Can't wait to catch up with people I haven't seen in awhile and share some exciting new science with the attendees!
I will be presenting the above poster (2pPPb8) on May 24, 2022 (2-5pm)!
Be sure to check out work from other members of UMN's Listen Lab:
Steven Gianakas: May 26, 2022 (1:30-4:30pm)-- 4pPP13: The impact of prior topic awareness
on
listening effort during speech perception
Michael Smith: May 26, 2022 (1:30-4:30pm)-- 4pPP4: The difference between using context to
predict versus using context to repair: a study of listening effort
Matthew Winn: May 26, 2022 (1-5pm)-- 4pSC2: Perception and expression of talker gender at
the beginning and end of words
Always a welcomed sojourn from the northern climes during winter! It was a great experience of having my first in-person conference since joining the Listen Lab at the University of Minnesota.
