About Harley

A self-portrait of Harley Wheeler

Professional

I am a clinical doctor of audiology who is currently pursuing his PhD in Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences at the University of Minnesota.

My current research is investigating vocal prosody's role in communication. Vocal prosody-- the way words are said-- adds information like emotion and meaning to speech. I am particularly interested in perception of these cues by populations with abnormal hearing, such as those with hearing loss and users of cochlear implants.

I believe in viewing people not just for their work, but also the mindset and background that they bring into their actions. We're humans after all, we don't exist in silos. That said, I hope you enjoy this bit of insight into my everyday!

When you spend so much time with a face in the books or planted in a chair with eyes staring at a computer monitor, finding a hobby that allows you to get out and enjoy some fresh air is important! Among many others, here are some plants I've had the pleasure of growing!
